HAZRATBAL DARGAH
"The Dargah Sharif: A Reflection of Peace on Dal Lake"
Perched on the western banks of the Dal Lake, the Hazratbal Shrine is considered the holiest shrine in the Kashmir valley. Its pristine white marble dome and towering minaret stand in beautiful contrast to the surrounding Zabarwan mountains, reflecting a sense of divine serenity in the calm waters of the lake.
✨ The Moi-e-Muqqadas
The shrine is home to the Moi-e-Muqqadas, a sacred hair of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The relic reached Kashmir in the 17th century and has since been the spiritual heartbeat of the valley. The modern marble structure, featuring its iconic lone dome, was completed in 1979, blending contemporary aesthetics with traditional Islamic motifs.
1. Architectural Grandeur
Unlike the wooden "Pagoda" style seen in many traditional Kashmiri mosques, Hazratbal follows classical Mughal-inspired marble architecture. The single dome is a masterpiece of symmetry. When the evening Adhan (call to prayer) echoes across the lake, the atmosphere becomes truly ethereal.
