"Where Ancient Stones Whisper to the Mountains"

Naranag Temple Ruins Kasmir
The 8th-century granite ruins of Naranag, set against the backdrop of the Wangath Valley.

Deep in the Wangath Valley of Ganderbal district lies Naranag, one of the most important archaeological sites in Kashmir. These 8th-century temple ruins, built by King Lalitaditya Muktapida, stand as silent witnesses to the valley's ancient history and architectural brilliance.

🗿 The Monolithic Marvels

The temples are constructed entirely of massive grey granite blocks. Even after centuries of exposure to heavy snow and rain, the intricate carvings and the sheer scale of the stone slabs remain intact, showcasing the advanced engineering of ancient Kashmir.

1. Gateway to the Great Lakes

Naranag is not just for history buffs; it is the spiritual starting point for many high-altitude adventures. It serves as the primary base camp for:

🏞️ Gangabal Lake Trek

A challenging yet highly rewarding trek to the sacred "Great Lakes" nested high in the Harmukh mountain range.

🏔️ Mount Harmukh

The sacred, snow-capped mountain peak that looms majestically over the ruins, considered by many to be the abode of Lord Shiva.
