The name Doodhpathri literally translates to "Valley of Milk." Local lore suggests that the famous Kashmiri saint, Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani, once pricked the ground here with his walking stick to search for water, and milk gushed out instead! Today, the name also reflects the Shaliganga River, which crashes over stones with such force that it looks like frothing milk.
