Over 1.5 million tulips spread across 30 hectares of terraced land overlooking Dal Lake.

Welcome to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden (formerly known as Siraj Bagh). Opened in 2007 by then-Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to boost floriculture and tourism in the valley, this horticultural wonder is nestled in the lap of the majestic Zabarwan Range and overlooks the sparkling Dal Lake. Today, it is officially recognized by the World Book of Records as Asia's largest tulip garden.

Every spring, the garden transforms into a kaleidoscope of colors, signaling the end of the harsh winter in Kashmir. The meticulous planning involves planting millions of bulbs imported from Amsterdam, along with local varieties, to create a vibrant spectacle that draws travelers, botanists, and photographers from across the globe.

🗓️ The Annual Srinagar Tulip Festival

The garden is a rare jewel because it is highly seasonal—open only for a limited window of 20 to 30 days, usually from late March to late April. During this period, the Department of Floriculture hosts a grand festival featuring traditional Kashmiri folk music (Chakri), cultural dances, and local handicraft and authentic Wazwan food stalls amidst the blooms.

1. A Rainbow of Over 60 Varieties

The garden boasts over 60 distinct varieties of tulips, including the fringed, double bloom, early bloomers, and the highly sought-after 'Parrot Tulip'. The flowers are meticulously arranged in seven ascending terraces. A beautiful water channel runs through the center of the garden, reminiscent of traditional Mughal architecture, reflecting the vibrant colors and creating a perfect symmetry. As you walk up the gentle slopes, the colors shift like a physical rainbow under the spring sun.
