Chashme Shahi is the smallest but perhaps the most charming of the Mughal gardens in Kashmir. Built by Ali Mardan Khan in 1632 A.D. under the orders of Emperor Shah Jahan, the garden is designed around a natural freshwater spring that flows directly from the Zabarwan mountains.

📍 Heritage Details at a Glance:

💧 Famous For: A natural spring with highly revered medicinal properties.

👑 Built By: Ali Mardan Khan (Commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1632).

📐 Architecture: Classic Persian 'Chahar Bagh' across three terraces.

🗺️ Location: Zabarwan Range foothills, near Raj Bhawan, Srinagar.

1. The Miracle Spring

The garden is split into three beautifully manicured terraces, with the main attraction being the "Royal Spring" itself. For centuries, this water has been famous for its medicinal properties and exceptional purity.

Legend has it that the Mughal royalty would have this water transported all the way to Agra and Delhi because of its refreshing taste and digestive benefits. Even today, locals and tourists visit with empty bottles just to collect the pure spring water.

💧 The Water of Healing

"One sip of the Chashme Shahi water is said to cure the soul of all fatigue."

🏛️ The Persian Layout

Chashme Shahi perfectly follows the 'Chahar Bagh' design, focusing on strict geometric symmetry, aqueducts, and the peaceful, unbroken flow of water through the pavilions.

🍃 Best For Tranquility

Travelers who prefer a quiet, intimate atmosphere will love this spot. It offers a much more peaceful retreat compared to the larger crowds typically found at Nishat or Shalimar.
