ACHABAL BAGH

"The Place of Splendid Thirst-Quenching Waters"

The cascading waterfalls and historic Mughal pavilions of Achabal Bagh.

Located about 58 KM from Srinagar and 8 KM from Anantnag, Achabal Garden is a masterpiece of 17th-century Mughal engineering. While Shalimar and Nishat are famous for their vistas, Achabal is celebrated for its powerful water gush and the intricate masonry of its canals. It was the favorite summer retreat of Empress Nur Jahan, who developed it in 1620 A.D.

1. The Engineering Marvel

The garden is designed around a massive mountain spring that enters the garden as a thunderous waterfall. The Mughals designed a unique heat-exchange system here; the water flows under the "Hamam" (royal bath) areas to keep the pavilions naturally cool even during the hottest Kashmir summers.

🌊 The Treasury of Water

The main tank is exceptionally deep and houses massive fountains that operate purely on natural gravity—no electricity required!

🌳 Ancient Chinars

The garden features some of the thickest Chinar trees in South Kashmir, providing a dense canopy that keeps the temperature significantly lower than the surrounding town.
